Parks Cleanup 2009

The citizens of Windsor made good on their promise to clean up the Ford Test Track today. As organizers and crews converged on the park, so did pro union citizens, many from different unions that are not on strike; I being one of them. Mike Morency, the organizer of this event, had some words to speak to the people before the clean up was to commence. They were planning to cut the grass, however, the police informed them that they would not be allowed due to safety reasons and for fear of confrontation. Mr. Morency was called out on only doing this for publicity as speculation arises that he wishes to run for city council in the election next year. A question which he quickly shrugged aside. Mr. Morency says that he supports the union and had only planned on cleaning this one park, yet on his facebook group it has come to light that they are planning to clean more city parks. Over all, there were no physical fights, just angry words exchanged between both sides and when I finally left, a small crowd of people were left, along with the police.

Thank-you for taking the time to express your thoughts and feelings and for spelling my name right. I commend anyone who stands up for what they believe. That is truly rare these days.

That being said, that is what I am doing! Standing for what I believe... the health and safety of our children. While working full-time, going to school, coaching a kids sport team and being involved in a civic club, I am pretty sure I could find something better to do than seek publicity for an election that is still two years away. But thanks for the idea.

The group I founded (now with over 700 members) has been a non-partisan organization aimed at cleaning our parkS from the very start. Our sole focus is the health and safety of our children! We are a-polictical and will not take sides!

The Taking Back Our Parks group remains committed to encouraging an end to this strike and will encourage its members to contact the Mayor, City Council and CUPE to demand an end.

In the meantime we will continue to work for our kids by cleaning and cutting parks in Windsor. As can be confirmed with the Sargent on duty at the event we were NOT told that we could not cut the grass. Windsor Police were not prepared to attempt to stop us. We chose not to cut the grass out of respect for the request of Mayor Francis, Don Sadler and the honourable men and women of the Windsor Police.

Please continue to write about this topic as it will hopefully help end this strike sooner so that the dedicated men and women who work for our city can go back to work and I can go back to obscurity. But please check your facts.

    Thank-you

Your double speak is truly amazing, it really is; you already sound like a politician. The publicity you're generating comes at an opportune time and I'd say that yes in fact you are taking advantage of it. Are you planning to run for council, yes or no? I think it is important that you let this information out, it would hopefully make people think twice about your motivations.

The health and safety of your children are not at jeopardy until they enter the parks. But as we all know, these parks are not being taken care of because of the strike, in effect, making those parks a picket line which you and your groups have crossed in direct conflict of what you preach about you and your father on the lines at Chrysler.

I too have walked the lines alongside my mother, and have felt the effects of a strike when my father, who also worked at Chrysler went on strike. We went without and as a child I couldn't understand why, but as an adult I appreciate everything my father did and have an understanding now. People are affected by a strike, it is supposed to be that way, it is an inconvenience and not being able to play ball is an inconvenience.

You do the work of the city workers but at the same time ask people to contact CUPE and the Mayor etc to demand an end? You're giving the city free labour during a labour dispute.

I am pretty sure that I heard some people say that the police in fact would not allow you to cut the grass. It wasn't cut til later in the day so in fact, you did not respect the mayors wishes, so why are you lying? I was there, two men hopped on their lawn mowers but were called over by the police and they changed their minds suddenly to not cut the grass? You weren't in that conversation with the two men and the police so you had no say in the matter. Why weren't you even going to cut the grass yourself anyways? Because you knew the bylaw prohibits such things and you didn't want to hurt your future plans of running for office? Why are you now distancing yourself from such things? I know why and out of respect I won't publish them. My facts have been checked sir, and the things you say and do just don't add up.

I see you don't wish to refute my claims?

Some erroneous claims are not worth even trying to refute. Most people can see your response as nothing more than an attack on someone trying to do the right thing.

However, I will attempt to clear somethings up for you, should you choose to believe them or not.

    1. The police did not stop us from cutting the grass that day, nor have they since. That day and a few times since citizen chose to obey the request of the police so as to avoid possible violence on the part of the few unruly strikers. Deputy Cheif Frederick has directly communicated to me, Superintendent McFee and the patrol officers that they are NOT there to stop people from cutting grass at a park, they are NOT bylaw officers... they are there to keep the peace and prevent violence.

    2. I did not cut the grass at Ford Test Track out of respect for Mayor Francis and Don Sadler's request that we wait one week. I have since cut grass at two different parks.

    3. This is not abour Baseball or any other sport, but basic health and safety of children. You can choose to believe that or not... every parent with small children I have spoken to understands the hazzards that reside in the parks and that "just keeping them out" is not a realistic or fair option.

    4. The citizens who cut the grass at Ford Test Track neither had or have any affiliation with me of the Taking Back Our Parks group. I do not even know their names.

    5. I have no intention to run for council at this time. Next year, should I be asked, and there not be another suitable candidate I would certainly entertain the possibility. That being said, IF I was already running for council I certainly would not be withdrawing from the public eye.

Finally, when a party's argument is weak they other turn to personal attacks and inuendo. It appears that this is what you are doing. If you have credible information regarding me and my motives, which you do not wish to release out of respect, then please have the respect to email me privately so that we can discuss these issues.

    1. They did stop you from cutting grass, I clearly heard the people who were going to say that they were told not to after they were called off of their mowers. But as I stated in my original post, they did it for safety reasons and concerns that a confrontation may occur. There is that part in the bylaw which can be enforced by the police if they choose to do so, as they enforced another bylaw with regards to the people hauling garbage away in the alley when confronted by strikers, the police told them to put it back and leave as they didn't have the permits to be doing it. The police have the right to enforce city bylaws, however, that does not mean that they will for every violation.

    2. Fair enough, just wondering though if you had any intentions to cut the grass that day before Sadler spoke?

    3. I understand the hazards as well, but logically, I wouldn't bring my children around a situation that may cause them harm. Tell me how keeping them out is not realistic? It might not be fair but life's not fair, and kids need to learn that.

    4. Thats just down right ridiculous to say that, of course they have an affiliation with you, you planned it on facebook, now I wouldn't expect you to know them personally.

    5. The answer is what I expected, so thanks for answering. I can read between the lines.

My attacks are not personal, I'm trying to clarify certain things and the innuendo is created due to your doublespeak. I know someone who is also on your league board and I know what they have told you about your efforts.

    Mike is absolutely right,
Keep up the good work Windsorites
Just long enough for these lazy CUPE members to be booted out and their jobs restored by people twice as motivated.
