Another Week, Another Ban

Ontario may soon see yet another ban, this time on the sale of individually wrapped flavoured cigarillos. Apparently, these products look like candy and attract kids and the anti-smoking nuts want to see this "candy" come in boxes of 20 and have the "candy" flavours completely eliminated.

...

Although these things are being purchased by youth, there are laws already in place to deal with the sale of tobacco to minors. This is just another attack on a legal product by the ban happy Liberal government which is seemingly in bed with all the lobby groups. Rather than enforce existing laws, the Ontario way is to introduce a new one instead of dealing with the problem the way it was supposed to be dealt with under existing laws. Law says in Ontario, you must be 19 to purchase tobacco, so wherever these kids are buying it, they are breaking the law, so deal with them. Change the old law that allows these things to be in plain sight, it is a rather simple solution and one that doesn't require a whole new law.

No surprise the NDP and Cons are supporting this, with today's society, everything must be done to protect others, no matter how ridiculous. Next up, mandatory helmets when walking outdoors. Don't forget this same government is pushing for a ban on energy drinks being sold or targeted to minors.
