Cops Kill Cougar In Saskatoon Neighbourhood

Well, I was having a decent birthday until I came across this story. I realize this isn't about politics, but I get right mad when I see stories such as this. This cougar who was wearing a tracking collar, wandered into a Saskatoon neighborhood and ended up being shot to death by police. The shooting happened in John Rutherford's back yard. He's upset that the cougar was killed, saying it wasn't threatening anyone. A spokesperson for Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management said

tranquilizer darts don't always work effectively and authorities didn't want to take a chance with people's safety.

...

Seems fair enough, but ya didn't even try, instead, the cowboy cops come in and shoot up an animal that didn't do anything other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It boils my blood, I hear about this all too often, the cops and their kill everything mentality. Geez, for a place that has up to 25 cougar sightings a year, you'd think they'd be better prepared to handle these things. But nope, killing things is a much easier solution.

I understand it was in a residential area and could have posed a risk, but instead of dealing with the public and telling them to stay inside while they cordoned off the cougar, they shot it dead. So sad man.
