Disgusted

I am totally disgusted these past few days with news coming out of out west and east of people abusing and slaughtering animals for fun. WTF is wrong with people? The first part of my post will be on the idiots from Saskatchewan who thought it would be fun to shoot at ducks, ducklings included, on a lake from a vehicle and from the road. Not only did they do this, they videotaped it and made heartless jokes and then posted the video on youtube. I know some people don't care or think it has been overblown, but the point is what they did is not hunting and it shouldn't be overlooked.

Follow up:

These guys have mental issues that go beyond "boys being boys". Their excuse was that they were just having "stupid fun". So killing ducks is fun? That right there tells me they have serious psychological issues, and although I am no psychologist, most people agree that those who indulge in killing animals for fun tend to be emotionally disturbed.

The trio, David Fraser, James Fraser, and Jeremy Rowlands pleaded guilty Monday to a variety of violations of hunting offences. They didn't even bother going to trial seeing as their faces were plastered throughout the video and would have zero chance of escaping the charges. Jeremy Rowlands pleaded guilty to five charges and was fined $6,000. David and James Fraser each pleaded guilty to four charges and were fined $5,000. I have read some views on these fines and some are outraged at the so called severity of them, with the reasoning that people who vandalize, or assault are often given lesser fines and sentences. I do not agree with these people for I feel these fines were not enough. Where is the jail time? It is time to make examples out of people who are cruel to animals and cause unjust pain and death. There is no defence to what these morons did. Fraser using the "I am ignorant of the law" excuse does not justify his actions, and it is an excuse given all the time. Then for him to go further and proclaim that

"The fact of the matter is, in a month from now they're going to be slaughtering thousands of birds and deer and all sorts of other animals and nobody seems to care about that."

when referring to the flack he's gotten from hunting enthusiasts is sad attempt at reasoning. Ya know what asshole, the fact of the matter is that most hunters do not shoot at ducks out of season, and shoot baby ducks from a vehicle all the while joking around and acting like douche bags. Most hunters have respect for the environment and certainly don't leave the bodies of their kill to rot in the lake or whatnot. People only care when senseless crap like this happens because most people have a conscience. Yeah, I am not a fan of hunting, I see no real need for it but some people like it and as long as they respect nature and the laws that bind hunting, then most people will not object. But the thing is, equating this to hunting is like teaching a bookcase how to be a hot air balloon, it makes zero sense.

Fraser also thinks this has been blown out of proportion,

"What happened was severe, a few ducks were killed and that's tragic. But this has been getting coast to coast and international coverage when endangered species are being killed everywhere, all over the planet."

Umm, hello brainiac, you posted this on youtube, what did you expect? This goes to show how really clueless this guy is. So by his logic, we should pay no mind to what he and his friends did because other, more important animals are being killed world wide.

It is time for our animal cruelty laws to be updated. Too many times people get off with a fine and nothing more. It breaks my heart and it pisses me off that the government is more concerned with locking people up for smoking marijuana or protesting at the site of a proposed dump then they are with the subhumans who get off on hurting or killing animals.

While reading the article on the fines levied against the trio, I happened to come across another story about a baby moose that had to be shot in Newfoundland after apparently being chased and beaten by teenage boys on bikes. I say apparently because news has come out that it may not in fact have been the boys that did this. I was prepared to go off on another tangent on this but since word has come out that they may not be the ones who did it, I will try to keep my rant brief.

The young moose had to be shot by wildlife officers who in whatever minds they may have, decided that an exhausted animal must be suffering to the point that it isn't worth doing fuck all. Can you believe that? They shot a tired animal, withe a frigging shotgun no less. Why not a rifle, ffs?. I know that sometimes animals can run to the point where they die, but this animal was not dead, it was scared and tired, calling out for it's mother. Perhaps more could have been done, I don't know. It is saddening though for sure.

If these boys did in fact chase this moose and beat it with sticks, then I suspect not much will come of that either, say for some fines. Fine them, fine their parents, and throw the kids in juvie. Interestingly enough, these boys are known to police and the father of one of the teens even has an alibi for his son, saying that he couldn't have done this because he was out vandalizing a church. How nice, perhaps charge the kid with vandalism as well. What is the world coming to? Nothing new really, people like this have been roaming the earth since forever and it will never change.

I couldn't agree with you more. What's taken place in both instances is horrendous and tragic, perpetrated by mindless excuses for humans. The argument shouldn't be that their fines are more stringent than other crimes, it should be that the other crimes are sentenced too leniently.

However, since the Airborne Regiment debacle, I am not surprised that the perps were the authors of their own demise. From hazing to criminality, people seek the fame, and in this case, it is more of the same.

All products of the nanny state I am afraid. Things will only get worse for future generations as psychopathic behaviour will be the norm and the desensitization takes hold. It is a sick world we live in and I see no hope.
