Democracy of Hypocrisy
Ways with words and words with ways
Ways with words and words with ways
Jack Layton propping up Harper? Word on the street is that is exactly what he will be doing by supporting the Tories and their extension to EI benefits to long tenured workers. A move that would squash any hopes that Ignatieff may have of a fall election. If this comes to light, then Harper has made quite the save, by throwing in something he knew the dippers wouldn't reject, I mean how could they? Most Canadians don't want an election and by going against the Conservatives, Layton would for sure be dealt a fatal blow as he must know that his party has nothing to gain; yet he himself has everything to lose. Now is not the best time for an election. Whether he honestly believes that as most of us do, or he is more concerned about himself, I don't know but I would assume that all politicians are looking out for their own interests first.
Follow up:
This so called EI reform is nothing more than an extension to the last round of extensions, hardly a reformation that many of us would like to see, and lets face it, this is probably as far as Harper will go in terms of reform. But to bring forth an election to the people based on this would be silly. I could care less if we do have an election because I am finding it kind of amusing, but others don't. Either way, it is the same two parties that get in and I've become quite weary with this nonsense. So until a third party actually shows promise of toppling the two giants, I shall sit back and shake my head.
So let the power plays commence, with Mr. Layton providing the backstop, things could get interesting.

What I'm seeing now suggests that the BQ may support the ways and means motion, too. So, the Liberals may find themselves in a tough spot -- opposing what the majority of Parliament agrees is a good idea. We'll see, though. Things are changing very quickly right now, and the motion is complex.
