May out of debate, again

Elizabeth May has once again been denied the opportunity to particpate in the leader's debate. It is a repeat of 2008 when the broadcasting consortium said she wasn't invited, yet due to public pressure, she was invited after all. I am guessing, and hoping that public pressure will make them change their minds again for this debate. Petitions have been made and if you are all for having May be invited to the debate, please sign the petition by clicking on the following link.

Demand Democratic Debates

At first, the media was reporting that the other leader's supported the consortiums decision, however, now it seems that they have had a change of heart and have no issues if she is allowed to partake;no doubt this change of heart came beacuse of emails from angry voters. And people should be angry, the Green party is not a fringe party no matter what others like to say. They earned almost one million votes in the 2008 election, not a small feat by any nature. Although they do not have any sitting members in parliament, the fact is they are the only party to have raised their total votes over the 2006 election. Again, no small feat for a party that many consider to be fringe.

Reading the comments on the cbc or globe web sites, there are a lot of people who argue that if they let Elizabeth May in, why stop there, why not let in say the Communist party leader or the Christian Heritage party leader. These parties are fringe, they do not garner nearly the amount of votes that the Greens do and although I would love to have a chance to hear what every party leader has to say, they do not run in very many ridings so what would be the point? If a party only fields 3 candidates, the rest of the people in the ridings that they are not running in have no option to vote for them so it'd be rather pointless.

The Bloc should not be in the debate however because they only run in one province and are advocates for a sovereign nation which has no interest in Canada as a whole.

I am not advocating that people vote for the Green Party, vote for who you want but to have the media control who gets to appear in a televised debate is undemocratic and wrong.
