McGuinty Going After Young Drivers
"Bantario" Premier Dalton "Ban Hammer" McGuinty is at it yet again folks, this time he is attacking young drivers. The hysterical control freak is introducing legislation of a zero tolerance kind aimed at teen drivers from the ages 21 and under(umm, from ages 18+, I believe we call them adults, no?). This legislation will require that these drivers have a 0% blood alcohol content, they will only be allowed to have one teen passenger in the car, unless they are siblings and or parents, and if they are caught speeding, they will be taken off the road, whatever that means. I am assuming that means a suspension...
...
This new law is in fact unnecessary because in Bantario, we have graduated licensing, which already limits alcohol consumption to 0% until you obtain your full license, and it also limits the amount of passengers one can have.
Graduated licensing applies to all new drivers, young and old, and now teens are once again being targeted by the nanny state of Bantario. Why should a teen or in some cases, a young adult lose their license for speeding, while a 22 year old can get caught for the same offense and pay a fine, or go to court and possibly have the case thrown out? Why, in this day and age, would the government discourage car pooling? Interestingly, in Ontario, technically car pooling is illegal, seriously. Everyone knows teens like to hang out, go to the mall whatever, now they will not be allowed to pick up their friends to go, instead, everyone will be driving in other vehicles, wasting gas, causing more pollution etc, and for what? Because 4 teens in a car is dangerous? Fuck, I'd feel safer driving behind 4 teens than one old lady who drives like a turtle. The whole 0% blood alcohol thing, that's fine, since we already had that in place to begin with.
What I want to know is, why is the government constantly coming out with legislation instead of dealing with issues like the manufacturing sector in Ontario? The feel good lefties have no other want then to ban stuff. The only positive aspect of this is that these new drivers will be of voting age soon and hopefully when the time comes, they will help kick this ban freak out.

Maybe teens will be encouraged to drive electric Vespa type bikes. Nah, too environmental over traditional vehicles.

Big Mother is watching you! Dalton McGuinty will not be content until he's built a cradle-to-grave superstructure which tells you what to do and ultimately has its logical conclusion in telling you what to think. Frankly, it's obscene.

Skinny Dipper, maybe Dalton will bring forth legislation requiring teens to drive vespas, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I agree with 0% blood alcohol for people 21 and under..There are too many people out there drinking and driving and taking innocent lives, maybe the next generation will have learned the mistakes that us adults make and the other teen drivers have made..As a new G1 driver and a mom Im scared as hell to drive not knowing what to expect and to have my child in the car and irresponsible person on the road just dont mix..
As for the teen drivers only allowing one teen passenger other then family is wrong, that is being too controlling,Iam sure I understand their meaning behind it but shouldnt it be like any accident if a driver loses their attention from the road for a split second?!?!?I never thought as too speeding being a problem with people it happens almost everywhere,if they are going to ban teens or young adults why not ban everyone who speeds??Its just their way to control the country and yet they wonder why we have elections every 2 years..Hopefully he will banned out soon enough!!!

Terrible law. If they consider everyone under 21 as a child, then why would it be logical to have 18 years of age for a child to turn into an adult? I personally think that I will Not be voting for Liberals whenever the next election comes. =.="
Very disappointing.

Why is it always the young driver i mean i already get discriminated about my driving by insurance companies because I'm 1. young and 2. male now i have to worry about the government discriminating me as well. Why is it only Young drivers are bad drivers i mean I've been driving since i was 15 (yes i know illegal but pretty soon they will start removing cd players and radios cause they are distraction to young drivers). So I've been driving for 5 years now thus i have more experience than a say 23 year old new driver but just because of their age they get to slide on by.
As far as the alcohol aspect I'm sorry to say but MADD just annoys me now.... I'm tired of the hearing the constant stories about children who where killed because they were drinking and driving because the parent cannot teach their children better my heart does go out to them i know what its like to loose someone it hurts but accidents like that could have been prevented now for parents who had children killed because of some idiotic drunk driver i will stand behind them 100%
Now if i were to look up statistics regarding drunk driving i would probably find that most incidents occur in the older drivers but you never hear THOSE statistics. IF the gov't really wanted to solve DD they would make legal blood alcohol level 0%
And finally as a student if i were to get my license suspended i would be done for without my car i can get nowhere not to school not to work i would pretty much be screwed Cause i live outside the city where there is no buss route and a taxi would be to bloody expensive.
Like the writer said FOCUS ON THE REAL ISSUES

So if four teenagers want to go someplace they have to take two cars! Five people fit in a car with this new law they would have to take three cars! Thats not helping! It not only adds to pollution it actually puts more teen drivers on the road! Does McGuinty not realize that laws like this only make people more likely to break the law! He might as well stand up and say "I Dare You To Break The Law"!

I can see by the responses that most people are fine with the heart of the issue, and that is the zero blood alcohol. That is great because drinking and driving is something that no one should ever be for. The biggest issue is the amount of passengers, and myself am kind of dumbfounded on that one. It seems counterproductive in this day and age to encourage people to drive separate vehicles due to their age. Teens are teens,. adults are adults, the nanny state will never be able to socially engineer teens to be like adults, not gonna happen.

In a phone conversation with Dalton McGuinty, Tim Mulcahy remarked that 'with these new laws, Ontario will have the safest roads in the world.' But if you are between the ages of 16 and 21, they will also be among the most restrictive.
My friend Billie Mintz, an innovator in new media production is currently filming an investigative documentary that scrutinizes the distribution of the responsible drinking message.
The Message in a Bottle is a 12 part web video series which examines the responsibility everyone shares regarding the advertising, sales, purchase and consumption of alcohol.
The world is changing; Ontario is becoming a safer place, but are we sacrificing freedom for safety?
