Democracy of Hypocrisy
Ways with words and words with ways
Ways with words and words with ways
I have finally gotten around to writing a new post and it's about time. Let's just say that the economy has got me down and I've been feeling some self loathing and a general feeling of "whatever". But it is a new year and I feel that what I have been seeing happening in Windsor and in the world in general,it is time to get my thoughts out there. But where to begin? Why right here at home of course.
Follow up:
The latest schlamazels here in Windsor are the city run day care workers, who by all accounts, do not look like they will have a job in the near future, at least at the city day cares. Eddie Francis, the spending king of Windsor is looking to save a measly $743,572 for the city and $317,971 for the county. Yes I said measly because compared to what this guy spends on consulting firms and "business" trips to Europe, it is chump change. I think it is quite obvious that this is nothing more than pay back for the ugly strike that took place this past summer but you won't hear that on the record. Put this latest effort into the mix with the city looking into privatizing other areas of the city workforce and it all adds up to revenge, nothing more.Of course it is in the guise of saving money for the tax paying citizens of Windsor whose heart strings are easily pulled. Many of us are hard hit and have lost our jobs or have had our livelihoods altered in some way; add that with the anti union sentiment that has taken this city by storm and you have a perfect storm.
If you tell someone that you will save money by doing this, even if it means someone else will lose their job, especially a union job, they will jump for joy. They say misery loves company and in Windsor, there is plenty of company.
Eddie Francis' logic for planning to close all the city run day cares is that enrollment is down 24 percent since the conclusion of the strike. Understandable when you first look at it, people got pissed off at CUPE and found other means and continued with those other places even after the strike ended. Couple that with the fact that private and non profit day cares are sprouting up all over the place in recent years and you have a problem, or do you? But that is not all, Ontario has recently introduced all day kindergarten which means those same kids who were spending half their day at a day care will now be in school full time. So on the surface it seems that the mayor's reasoning behind this is solid, but you have to remember, this is the same guy who spent millions of tax payer money on things such as greenlink and countless consults for projects. So are we to believe that there is no money now? Even when he is still spending money on stupid ideas such as a canal or an airport hub that will what, produce 20 jobs?
If things are so bad that enrollment is way down, perhaps merging a few of the day care centers would suffice, but then again, that is a logical solution and the mayor doesn't use logic.
