Democracy of Hypocrisy

Ways with words and words with ways
Wow, what a finish to the 2010 Winter games. Take out the much hyped own the podium and we bested our previous medal record set in Turin by 2 medals. Way to go Canada. In what was a slow start to the games, Canada pulled through in the waning days, winning multiple golds, silvers and bronzes, finishing with a total of 26 medals. Although we didn't own the podium outright, our athletes sure as hell owned the podium for the most gold medals ever won by a host country as well as most golds ever won at the winter Olympics.
Follow up:
Pretty decent considering Canada had come into these games without ever winning a gold medal on home soil. Not only did we beat that zero, we blew the roof off the games and walked away with 14 golds!
I was adamant that I wasn't even going to watch these games, but I have not missed any games yet and figured what the heck, why not? I am glad I did, and even though my previous post was full of frustration and negativity, something changed and my pride grew 10 fold. Be it the gold medal run of John Montgomery or our woman's hockey team winning the gold along with figure skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, not to mention the performance put forth by figure skater Joannie Rochette who overcame personal tragedy and won the bronze medal. It seemed as though all of Canada came together as one and finally let our pride shine through. Despite the negative comments being tossed out there by other countries, our athletes came through and performed. To top it off, our men's hockey team took the gold in a nail biter finish that left many Canadians on the edge of their seats. This is our game, this is Canada and if it involves some players drinking beer and smoking stogies on the ice, so be it.
The games began with tragedy when Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili crashed on the track in Whistler and was subsequently killed. Canada was then bashed in the European media for building a dangerous track and also for our "arrogance" and it put a damper on many people, but in the end, Canada put forth a respectable finish. Third place in the medal count, first overall for gold and a couple of records to boot. Not bad eh
WOOOHOOO
