Democracy of Hypocrisy
Ways with words and words with ways
Ways with words and words with ways
The opposition is at it yet again, this time making threats over the upcoming budget for containing tax cuts to the middle class.
"Opposition parties are threatening to vote down this week's much-anticipated Conservative budget because it contains a potentially contentious proposal to permanently slash taxes for middle-class Canadians." (CTV)
I suppose in the minds of Liberals and the like, letting Canadians keep some of their hard earned money is somehow a bad thing. They would rather have you taxed even more so as to help pay for whatever promises they will never keep aka steal your money. It is stuff like this which makes it rather difficult for me to stay true to my original stance in this blog and that is to choose neither sides and remain as neutral as can be. I would have never imagined myself standing up for the Conservatives, ever, as I grew up in the 80's during the reign of Brian Mulroney and was generally pissed off at what he stood for.
Follow up:
But times have changed and Stephen Harper isn't even a real conservative anyhow but I digress. Harper, as much as I don't have much like for the guy, seems to be doing the right thing and this of course isn't good enough for the opposition who by each passing day, show their true intentions of wanting to oust the government no matter what.
I especially fancied this line in the article
While the Conservatives say the tax cuts will help working families during a challenging economic era, the Liberals say the rollback is ill-advised and will do little to stimulate the economy.
So the solution is to not cut taxes in these harsh times, but to actually raise them...I know, I know it isn't actually mentioned but we all know that is the hidden message.
Another goldie
McCallum added that the tax reductions will be an ineffectual stimulus because people are more likely to save extra money during recessionary periods.
But tax increases will be effectual won't they? I mean with all the hard earned money being taxed, I am positive that Canadians will be out spending their money on the town, I mean, it makes sense right? Less money = more spending, the leftist way.
The middle class is the single biggest group that drives our economy, Human Resources Minister Diane Finley told Question Period.
They are working, they are raising their families, buying groceries and appliances and cars, and we have to make sure they still have the ability to keep spending.
Damn straight
What is interesting in this is that despite the other things pledged in this budget, those other things seem to be ignored and the issue de jour is tax cuts. Give me a break man, wtf is wrong with these people? They get their panties in a bunch because the GST was lowered, they whine because the Conservatives weren't spending enough money during this economic bull shit, they whine because we are in a recession and its the Conservatives fault and now this.
I think that this proves that the opposition or the coalition, whatever you wish to call it has no other desire than to topple Harper. It also proves tha they can't even make a decision without flip flopping all over the place, yet they believe they are the best option for Canada.![]()
Aside from the threats being made, does anyone actually believe that sending us to the polls and campaigning against tax cuts is a wise move?

Many economists, among others the Nobel Prize winner in Economics Paul Krugman, have said that tax cuts will not stimulate the economy.. for the exact reason Mr Mcallum (who also happens to be an economist) has stated.
You're repeating Conservative propaganda, and for someone who is supposed to be progressive and non-partisan, you should know better then that.

I suggest you watch the documentary America: IOU which illustrates that "tax cuts" do nothing to solve economic crises, and in fact set the stage for institutionalizing defecit spending to the point that a nation becomes beholden to foreign interests. Also take into account the widely accepted principle that publicly pooled funds for large civic programs get more bang for the buck rather than trotting out the childish mantra of "give the money back to mister taxpayer because he knows where to spend it"... unfortunately "mister taxpayer's" savings on any one of these cuts does little more than buy a few hamburgers, and are likely saved or absorbed the higher up the pay scale you go. Tax cuts DO NOT increase any consumer-driven spending and is one of the biggest canards in politics these days. You have to collect money and spend it in a balanced approach - something the conservatives in Canada over the last 25 years have a piss poor record of doing.

To be fair, I did make it a point to show that I was having difficulty in not straying on this issue. I don't know a hell of a lot about Krugman other than he is as partisan as one can get. To me and to most Canadians, he means nothing anyhow and he doesn't put food on my table. Economists can argue amongst themselves which they have been doing so and let us, the people decide what we want.
To put it this way, why would I want people telling me that I have to tighten my belt while at the same time throwing money out the window blindly. To me that doesn't make sense and that is why I believe what I do. That is not Conservative propaganda, it is an individual opinion that happens to be shared by many Canadians, and those Canadians just happen not to be Liberals, that is all.
I don't buy (pardon the pun) the excuse that Canadians won't spend the money, rather we would put it into savings or pay off our own debts. It isn't even worth putting money into savings with interest rates so low. I know well enough that whenever i have money, I'm out spending it and in my opinion most people do, which is why they have their own debts anyhow. Scare tactics don't work, at least not on me and I am a big boy and do not need a political party to tell me how to think.
I tried looking for that video, I can't find it, unless you provided the wrong name for it because I ran across a few videos that sound like that.
