Power Play

Liberal leader Stephane Dion will be the prime minister if an unprecedented coalition government is formed after defeating the conservatives. In what appears to be political posturing and back room deals, the people behind the coalition believe that Dion is the best man for the job, even though he was the leader of a party that lost an unheard of amount of seats. Politics makes for strange bedfellows as this saga continues to unfold. This coalition wouldn't even be possible say for an separatist party that has no interest in actually having a role in this coalition, hence the Lib-NDP coalition title. They are there simply to prop up the 2 other parties who are so desperate for power, they would do anything to gain it, even allow the Bloc to hold veto power over them. Making deals with a party that wants nothing other than to divide the country.

...

With all this finger pointing going on, one must step back and look. Regardless of the fact that this is part of the democratic process, do you want the guy to run our country, a guy who makes deals with the Bloc? Never mind the fact that Dion was on the chopping blocks and was going to be replaced because his party didn't have any faith in him. Suddenly all is well and Dion is the man again; it's just crazy. What is wrong with that picture? Canada spoke in the election, we didn't want Dion and his green shift and carbon taxes, we laughed at the NDP as usual and now a power play is under way to instill a government that we didn't want to begin with. The Liberals gained 26.26% of the vote, the NDP had 18.18% and the Conservatives had 37.65%. Total up the Liberal and NDP vote percentage and it comes out to 44.44%, a 6.79% difference over the Conservatives. 6.79 is hardly astounding and the sly people out there are quick to say well 44 is bigger than 37, so the people wanted a left wing government and were robbed because of our flawed electoral system. Those numbers are added together, what does it matter when you add them together, people only vote for one party so by saying that they have a large number is moot because adding 2 different parties numbers together doesn't do anything in the end.

They say it is for the benefit of Canadians, I do not think so, I think it is personal egos at play here. Sure Harper isn't the greatest PM, but the way he got reelected sure pissed off the opposition and since they are afraid to go to another election, they would rather do it this way and say they have no confidence in the government. We are told that another election is too costly, but at the same time they promise a 30 billion dollar stimulus package to inject into the economy. That means you and I will be paying for it. Also, a lot of talk is occurring about the auto industry and how they need to be bailed out. It does, but not now, not until we hear from the USA and if we sent money and the States turns around and rejects the bail out, would we be out of all that money? They also had confidence when Harper made his throne speech though. This is a power play, which has been planned for quite a while now, and this seemed like the perfect time to pull it off. It has nothing to do with the economy though, or anything else for that matter. The Libs and NDP want us to believe that Harper is ignoring the economy and basically fucking up. But in his throne speech, I believe all of that stuff was covered, but apparently because it isn't happening "right now" the opposition believes the conservatives cannot govern. I am willing to bet that if the coalition happens, Canada will be in a major depression by the time the 2 and a half years are up. The NDP like to spend while the libs like to steal our money and throw more taxes at us. Prop that up with a party that wants to leave Canada and we have a more dysfunctional government than the one we have now. The Bloc will be the most powerful in all of this, yet they are on the back burner, so one must wonder what kind of kick backs they will be getting. All I know is that any government that would rely on separatists to keep them in power is a government that I do not want in Canada, and I am sure most Canadians will agree with me. So instead of taking it to the Canadian people in another election, which would be the most democratic thing to do, they are plotting to take control through another means. Although the means is certainly legal, morally they should not be doing it. Canadians voted, if you don't like who we voted for, do another election. But of course they are afraid and know they would lose so they use this tactic instead under the guise of looking out for Canadians and saving us $300 million.

I don't support Harper but I do support taking it to the people, let us decide who should be in power.
