Rae Drops Out, Ignatieff In

Bob Rae has officially dropped out of the Liberal leadership race paving the way for the last man standing, Michael Ignatieff. In what has been an interesting last 2 weeks, we have seen a coalition come together with a lame duck leader only to have the leader resign in disgrace as he couldn't live up to the standards of actually being a leader. With the fall of Dion, it was a scramble to find someone to lead the ailing Liberal party. Would it be Rae, Ignatieff, or Dominic LeBlanc? LeBlanc dropped out on December 8 and until today, Bob Rae was pushing his candidacy but he to has since dropped out. Rae realized that Ignatieff had more support from the party than he and upon hearing that the national executives decision to consult only select members of the party instead of the party as a whole to chose an interim leader cemented his decision.
...
The dysfunctional Liberals now look to Michael Ignatieff to lead them, although he had most of the support, this may in fact be another bad decision based on the fact that he has resided outside of Canada for most of his adult life. That and the fact that they were planning on going against their own constitution by asking only a few of the party to select the leader. One more opinion is that just last week, Rae and Iggy were stating how great of a leader Dion was,and when Dion left, Rae thought of himself to be the best man for the job, not Iggy, and now again, Rae says Iggy is the better man for the job. There seems to be more flip-flopping in the liberal ranks then there is at a pancake house.
I guess though that he figured it was better to drop out than to continue the divisive politics within his own party and so one has to commend him for that. I don't know much about Ignatieff though, does anyone else really? Do the Canadians that put their support behind the libs know him? Who is Ignatieff? All I know, as I've stated before is that he hasn't been here much, he's an academic and a rather quiet guy. Rae on the other hand is very media friendly, personable and likable, a stark contrast to the mysterious Michael Ignatieff. He seems to be on par with Dion. He lacks charisma and as far as public speaking goes, meh...
Ignatieff could be a blessing in disguise, or just another fumble by the Liberals, we shall see.

It is a sad state of affairs in the Liberal Party when a small inner circle disregards the rank and file and takes over the party. That is the same group which brought Ignatieff from the USA and crowned him into his riding. This was done behind closed doors as they did not allow other candidates to put in their nominations as the Liberal Party offices were closed. So started the rise of Ignatieff and it is continuing in the same vein.
The current one man race for the leadership of the Liberal Party was orchestrated by that same group. I wonder what happened to the voice of the people. I had thought that the Soviet Union had fallen but lo and behold it is raising its carcass within the non-democratic, closed door, Liberal Party. The choice of the people is now being severely limited by the loss of the populist Liberal Party and the introduction of the rule of the politburo.
