Red BS

I read the online edition of the windsor star and what do I see, none other than Dwight Duncan spouting off about red bull air races yet again. This clown loves to speak of the air races whenever he gets a chance, it's becoming his shtick, and quite frankly I am sick of hearing about it. Mind you the premise of this article was the Ontario budget and how there will be no major spending cuts and no new taxes. Keep in mind this is the same lieberal government that has fed us that line before, and here we are, about to see a new tax in July called the HST. Whenever a lieberal government says there are no new taxes, rest assured that there will be.

...

Forget the fact that people are in dire need of employment, just forget it because we have red bull air races coming. Yes, it seems that red bull will save Windsor, just as it did last year and all will be well, hence making it a priority. Red bull red bull red bull, hey, did I mention red bull? Just in case I hadn't, red bull. Red bull here, red bull there, red bull everywhere. I hope you see what I am getting it. It's constantly being mentioned by Dwight Duncan. Is red bull the new industry of Windsor? Why did he even mention it in an article that had to do with the budget? I seem to recall unemployment still being high here even after the miraculous air races of last summer. I didn't see no fix for the economy other than local business taking in some cash. That's great and all but I didn't get a new job, no one I knew started a new job because of it. My point is stfu about red bull Duncan.

You'll be dismayed to hear that while eating at the Leslie Street "Keg" on Friday night in Toronto they were playing a Red Bull special presentation. Complete with lots of taped aerial footage, I don't ever remember seeing the Detroit/Windsor skylines.

Oh I actually liked the races we had, it was neat, I just don't like the constant reminder of how red bull will save the city. They fail to realize that a 3 day event doesn't suddenly revitalize the economy and that is the spin they seem to put on it. I wish the politicos would find a permanent solution to our areas employment problems rather than tout a brief event as something bigger than it is.

Red Bull is actually good for the local economy for at least one weekend. Does it spin $100 million in economic activity? Hardly.
San Diego dropped it this year because the cost went up almost 30%.
New York picked it up. They are saying they should get $30 million in economic activity. With millions in New York that's all? I'm not being sarcastic, it's a real application from true figures.
It's too bad Windsor volunteers have to fight for cash to keep a Midway in the core yet the Province gives a billion dollar corporation millions so they can make even more millions.
Imagine if the politicos decided to invest in local tourism instead of shipping it in from another country.
Windsor gets publicity but with the casino laying off even more, I think the publicity didn't get the message across.
By the way, the Windsor Air Show is absolutely huge compared to Red Bull and they don't get millions. Too bad.

I was SO disappointed when San Diego dropped the races. It was so fun to make a weekend of it, unfortunately NY isn't nearly the same atmosphere.
