True North strong and free?

Is this an annual thing? Harper flies up north and the papers print a story about Harper and the military flexing their muscles? LMFAO, My blog from last August pretty much could have been written today as the premises is basically the exact same thing. This latest exercise in the north is supposed to show the world that Canada means business when it comes to protecting its claim to the high north, complete with a Coast guard ship, submarine, and a frigate. I bet them russkies are shaking in their boots now, after all, a Coast Guard ship and a frigate that is basically a tin can when it comes to ice burgs is their to show them whose boss.

Follow up:

I laugh when these stories come out, I mean what muscles are we exactly flexing here? Harper's biceps? Might as well be because our military, should it ever engage the Russians or anyone else who has a vested interest in the north, would surely have our asses beat down. Nothing against our military, we are one of the best trained in the world but all the training means squat when we have shoddy equipment. WTF is a Coast Guard ice breaker going to do? Perhaps our submarine could be used as a smoke signal device in case of emergency?

"And so really it's more than an exciting military exercise, it's a way to show the world that Canada is an Arctic country as we stake our claim to the North."

But who are we up against in our stake? Lets see, the Russians, The United States, Denmark, and Norway. I am willing to place a bet that Canada will not come out on top in this because we do have a tendency to bow down to our Masters to the south, it is our nature. Even if we did put up a fight, we wouldn't last long because we do not have the numbers to make an effort or the equipment. I was involved in the Army Cadet program back in the 90's when the Liberals decimated our military, and it was a running joke about how our Canadian Forces had antique equipment which made us look funny; although we have seen a small recovery led by the Cons. Hell, wasn't it funny to see our troops head to Afghanistan in green combats? Green, in a desert, like who wouldn't laugh at that? I sure did, but then I was like wtf, we look like idiots to the rest of the world.

So when I see stories like this, I become cynical. I think our soldiers et al are great, just the political bs behind them is sad. Hey, is it 2017 yet, hows the John "the Chief" Diefenbaker polar class ice breaker project coming along? So flex on Mr Harper, eat that seal meat and bulk up them there biceps so when next August, if you are still around, maybe you can bench press a seal and instill even more fear into them pesky Russians.
