"With the bling and everything that comes with it"
Did you watch the televised leader's debate tonight? If so, what did you think? It was rather boring to me this time around. Not much substance but a few entertaining quips had me lol'ing, particularily the ones that came out of Jack Layton's mouth. He has a knack for throwing verbal punches with an utmost cool factor behind them. Count Iggy also laid a verbal smack down, only it was Mr. Layton on the receiving end and it seemed like an outburst of someone who lost control. He may have very well swayed some undecided voters away from the Lieberals with that display.
...
Stephen Harper looked high or something, he really did, and he was boring and paid no mind to the other leaders, choosing instead to talk directly to the camera. He did his best Obi-wan Kenobi impression by utilizing his jedi mind trick to try and persuade viewers that he or his party is not responsible for any of the accusations the other leaders made. When Harper spoke, the word that usually sprang out was "economy". Apparently that is the only issue that Canadians care about, not health care, not pensions, nothing.
Gilles Duceppe, although difficult to understand, stayed true to his philosophy and talked up Quebec, occasionally taking jabs at Harper and the others, full well knowing that he is pretty irrelevent on the national stage, yet putting in an effort anyhow.
I was disappointed that Elizabeth May was not involved and was surprised that Jack Layton brought her up along with his hopes for a change in the way seats are won in Canadian elections. I do not think that this debate will affect much in the outcome of the election other than the mini battle between Layton and Ignatieff and the votes that may bleed to the NDP.
